What is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?
Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is a process whereby blood plasma is enriched by platelets. This process allows for the healing of soft tissues and bone, it is used clinically for the treatment of sporting injuries, tendinosis, osteoarthritis, nerve injury and cosmetics.
How does it work?
A small amount of blood is taken from the arm, in the same way that a standard blood sample is taken. The blood is then placed in a centrifude and is spun, which allow the plasma to separate from the other blood components. Once the plasma has been enriched the blood is then injected into an area of the body that requires treatment. Research shows that this is a very safe procedure with minimal risk of complications. As the blood used comes from the patient there is no risk of transmitting disease or rejection.
